A "Border Awareness Experience" with the Women's Intercultural Center in Anthony, New Mexico ~ March 11-16, 2012
You are invited to take part in the Faber Center's second Spring Break Mission Retreat taking place March 11-16, 2012. We will join with the Women’s Intercultural Center in their “Border Awareness Experience” which takes place on the southwestern US/Mexico border. The purpose of this retreat is to build relationships with Mexican and American citizens who live on the border......so that we may come to a better understanding of the complexity of immigration issues in our country, and so that we may come to a better understanding of how we care for ourselves and our neighbors in our own communities. We will "engage in discussions with local residents and professionals, receive presentations from topic experts, and meet with local grassroots organizations involved in immigration." Participants will be selected through an application process and space is limited. A fee of approximately $350.00 will be required of each participant as well as attendance five preparation meetings prior to the trip and a follow up meeting upon our return. This retreat falls under the “Retreat Benefit” allowing for two paid days of retreat annually when accompanied by two or more vacation days.
In our Mission Retreat, we live simply in community together, travel to sites and meet with people during the day, have some quiet time for personal reflection, then gather in the evening as a group to reflect on our day and share our reflections as we are able. Some of the sites to which travel and people with whom we speak include:
