Financial
Aid Award Determinations
All graduate and professional students are considered independent
for financial aid purposes. The FAFSA
is used to gather information about the financial resources of
a student. From this information a student contribution is calculated.
This figure is referred to as the Expected Family Contribution
(EFC).
Financial need is the difference between what it costs to attend
Marquette and what you can afford to contribute toward college
expenses (based upon the FAFSA information).
In other words:
Cost (-) minus EFC
= Financial Need
Graduate Education Costs
Expected Family Contribution
The FAFSA is used to gather information about your financial
resources and the resources of your spouse. From this information
a student contribution are calculated. This is your Expected
Family Contribution (EFC).
You are expected to contribute a portion
of your after-tax income toward your annual education expenses.
A portion of your savings
and other assets are also considered.
Special Circumstances
Certain types of financial aid, such as the Subsidized Stafford
Loan, can be applied only toward demonstrated financial need.
Other types of aid, such as the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan or
alternative loans, can be awarded regardless of need. Financial
aid from all sources cannot exceed your total cost of education
for the year.
If you feel you have special circumstances that affect your ability
to contribute to your education, please contact
the Office of Student Financial Aid in writing. We will review
your situation and make appropriate adjustments.
