National Health Service Scholarships

The NHSC offers a competitive scholarship program designed for students committed to providing primary health care in communities of greatest need. Scholarship recipients serve where they are most needed upon completion of their training. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, in a fully accredited Family nurse practitioner program (master’s degree in nursing, post-master's or post-baccalaureate certificate), nurse-midwifery program (master's degree in nursing, post-master's or post-baccalaureate certificate), physician assistant program (certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or master's program), or Dental school. National Physical Science Consortium

NPSC's primary objective is to aid in increasing the number of Ph.D.s in the physical sciences and related engineering fields, emphasizing recruitment of a diverse applicant pool of women and historically underrepresented minorities. The National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemist and Chemical Engineers (NOBCCChE) was established to build a community of scientists and engineers by increasing the number of minorities in these fields. Northern Illinois Society of Human Resource Mgmt

Deadline: March, annually

Open to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a human resource or related field. Must have completed two courses in major, and a minimum of 24 credit hours at the time of applying. Must be currently enrolled for 15 credit hours. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 Applicants must demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and/or commitment to community service, both on and off campus. NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund

Third Year Law Student Scholarship Writing Contest- Open to all individuals who are law students at the date of submission and who have not been previously admitted to practice law in the U.S. Must be in good standing as a third year student in the Fall 2008 term. Scholarships will be awarded to law students who submit papers on the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. First place receives $12,500 toward tuition, second place receives $5,000 and third place receives $2,500. Papers must be of quality suitable for publication in a law review or journal and cannot have been previously published. The author’s full name, address, and phone numbers, as well as a brief discourse on the author’s legal education should accompany entries. Citations should conform with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, current edition. All entries become the property of the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund. Orphan Foundation of America

Open to students who have been in foster care for one consecutive year at the time of their 18th birthday or high school graduation OR have been adopted or taken into legal guardianship out of foster care after their 16th birthday OR have lost both parents to death before the age of 18 and not been subsequently adopted. In this instance, copies of death certificates must be provided. Applicants must be under the age of 25 on March 31, 2008, and must reside in the U.S. at the time of application. Ron Brown Scholar Program

The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exeptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities, and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Ten students will receive $10,000 per year for four years of college. Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Contest

911 Education Fund

Created in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Open to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the attacks, and who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students. Scholarship awards of up to $2,500 per applicant, per school year, are available and may be renewed on an annual basis, subject to satisfactory academic progress. St. John’s University Scholarship

St. John’s University awards two tuition-free scholarships for the Master’s degree to graduates of Catholic colleges or universities who have expressed a determination to enter the teaching profession. Thomas B. Jones & Grace Stevenson Jones Charitable Foundation

The Foundation was created in furtherance of Grace Stevenson Jones’ lifelong interest of promoting and encouraging higher education for undergraduate students from Grant, Iowa, and Lafayette counties in Wisconsin. Their foundation is offering $1,500 and $3,000 scholarships. Application materials must reach the National Bank & Trust Company of Sycamore postmarked no later than March 1, 2008. Underground Contractors Association

The Soroptimist Inernational Club works to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities throught the world. Wiesel Prize in Ethics

Deadline: December 7, annually

Open to full-time juniors and seniors. Students must submit a 3,000-4,000 word essay detailing an ethical issue. The WSGC is a NASA-funded program dedicated to using the excitement and vision of space science and aerospace science to equip the citizens of WI with the math, science, and technology tools they need to thrive in the next century. Veterans of Enduring Freedom & Iraqi Freedom Scholarship

Open to students currently enrolled as part- or full-time undergraduates. Must be active-duty or honorably discharged U.S. military veteran of the Enduring Freedom or Iraqi Freedom operations. Must be majoring in the following fields: electrical engineering, computer engineering, information systems security, computer information systems, technology management, computer science, physics, mathematics, science education or mathematics education. Majors directly related to the support of U.S. intelligence or national security will also be eligible. Zonta Women in Science Scholarship

Open to students who will be enrolled as a junior or senior for the 2008-09 academic year. Students must be pursuing an undergraduate program in science.
