Student Rights

When you accept an offer of financial aid from the Office of Student Financial Aid, you enter into an agreement with Marquette University. There are certain rights and responsibilities associated with this agreement which you should understand before you apply for or accept financial assistance.

Rights

• You have the right to expect our staff to assist you in obtaining financial assistance and information.

• You have the right to be informed. Marquette strives to provide schools, parents, and students with factual information about its costs, aid opportunities, programs, practices, and policies.

• You have the right to expect that all information reported by you and/or your family will remain confidential and will not be released without your written consent. No financial aid award which reflects your family's financial situation will be publicized.

• You have the right to accept all or part of the assistance offered. An award of one type of aid will not depend upon the acceptance of another form of aid.

• If funds are available, you have the right to request an adjustment in the components of your aid package (e.g., you may replace loan assistance for employment and vice versa).

• If there has been a significant change in your family's financial circumstances, you have the right to have your financial need recalculated. However, an increase in need will not always result in an increase in your financial aid award.

• By law, you are entitled to examine records maintained in our office which relate to your financial aid file. If you would like to review your file with a counselor, you must submit a written request to our office at least one day prior to the day you wish to review your records.

• You have the right to expect fair treatment. Our office does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, disability, sex, veteran's status, or national origin.
