THE UNIVERSITIES

Marquette University is an independent, co-educational institution of higher learning founded in 1881 by members of the Society of Jesus, a Catholic religious order established in 1549 by St. Ignatius Loyola. The University is named after father Jacques Marquette (1637-1675), a French Jesuit missionary and explorer in North America. Father Marquette's spirit of exploration and discovery and his dedicated service to others are exemplified in Marquette University's unflagging commitment to excellence in higher education in the Jesuit tradition.

The University of Veracruz is a state institution of higher education which is considered one of the five best universities in México because of its regional and national reputation in academic life, research, publication and artistic endeavors. The main campus of the University of Veracruz is located in Xalapa, the capital of the state of Veracruz.
