Recycling

Recycling Program Changes:

The campus recycling program has recently been revised in one respect. Aluminum can no longer be comingled with paper in deskside containers. Aluminum must be deposited at the area recycling locations located in campus buildings at various spots such as near vending machines and in hallways. Aluminum should be comingled with plastic (#1 and #2 only) and glass.

Contamination of recyclables with food and other non-recyclable items continues to be the biggest problem associated with the recycling program. Please make every effort to avoid contamination of the recyclable materials. If recyclables are contaminated, they will be thrown into the trash. This adds to the trash removal costs for the university as it is more expensive to landfill trash than it is to recycle. In addition, it is clearly worse for the environment. Please make every effort to recycle properly and to avoid contamination of recyclable materials.

Facilities Services provides a full-scale recycling program for the Marquette community. The recycling program consists of two distinct components, deskside and area recycling:

DESK SIDE RECYCLING

  1. Each desk has two receptacles, one for trash and one for paper recyclables. The blue container is for recycling.

  2. Only paper, cardboard, books, magazines and similar paper products should be placed in the desk side recycling container.

  3. Custodians will empty the recycling containers on a schedule that may vary by building and demand.
