Director of Regional Development—Southern California
Works in a regional advancement operation raising philanthropic support for university priorities by establishing, developing, and maintaining relationships with supporters in the Southern California territory. Develops and executes a fundraising business plan annually. Meets regularly with the Regional Development Director to assess projects, review strategies, and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks. Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects from Arizona, Southern California, and Utah with capacity to make gifts of $25,000 and more; regularly identifies and contacts additional prospects through research and referrals. Meets individually with prospects and volunteers. Responsible for making 15 to 20 face-to-face visits (moves) per month designed to move prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment to the university. Travels to and within region two weeks per month, or as necessary. Directs a solicitation to all prospects in portfolio for the university annual fund. Maintains appropriate contact with prospects and records all contact in University Advancement prospect management system. Attends university events and volunteer meetings, often during the evenings and weekends. Manages an annual budget.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required. Three to five years of development-related experience, preferably including fundraising, volunteer management, strategic planning, and personal solicitation. Experience in program management, including budget oversight, data analysis, and event management is desirable.
