University of Notre Dame, Loyola University Chicago, or Saint Louis University Students to Marquette University Exchange Program

Program Description

Marquette University is a member of the Consortium of Midwest Catholic Graduate Schools, and participates in the Consortium’s Inter-University Visitation Program. The Consortium includes Marquette University, University of Notre Dame, Loyola University, and Saint Louis University. This program provides the opportunity for a degree-seeking graduate student in good standing at one of the participating universities to take course work at any of the other universities and apply earned credits toward degree requirements at the student’s home university. The student is responsible for making financial arrangements at the home university but attends classes on a short-term basis at the host university.

Qualifications and Restrictions

In order to participate, the student is required to:

1. be a degree-seeking student,

2. have completed at least one full-time semester at Marquette University and be in good academic standing; and

3. complete the Inter-University Visitation Enrollment Form to “visit” one of the other three universities. (No application fee shall be charged.)

A student may seek approval for more than one visit at more than one university, but no more than 9 credit hours within a total of 30 hours may be taken in the Inter-University Visitation Program. (Marquette students are limited to 6 credits that may be applied toward degree completion.)

Application Deadlines

Due to the paperwork involved and the number of approvals necessary, the student must begin the application process no later than July 1, November 1, or April 1 for the first semester, second semester, or summer term(s) respectively.

Administrative Policy

Mr. Craig Pierce, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School & Director of Graduate Admissions, will provide the Registrar’s Office or Graduate School, as appropriate at that institution, with a copy of the Inter-University Visitation Enrollment Form. The Marquette University Graduate School will assist the student in becoming registered for the appropriate class. At the end of the term, Marquette University's Graduate School will send a copy of the student’s transcript to the Registrar’s Office or Graduate School at the home institution for posting on the student’s permanent record.

Students at other participating institutions desiring to take a course at Marquette shall:

  1. Follow any specific instructions at their home institution;
  2. Ensure that an approved Inter-University Visitation Enrollment Form is forwarded to the Marquette University Graduate School;
  3. Complete a Midwest Catholic Schools Application form once the student's home institution approval is granted, and forward the completed form to the Marquette University Graduate School.

The contact person at Marquette University's Graduate School is Mr. Craig Pierce (Craig.Pierce@marquette.edu or (414) 288-7137), Assistant Dean of the Graduate School & Director of Graduate Admissions.

The contact person at the home institution will:

  1. Forward the completed and approved enrollment form to Marquette University's Graduate School.

The Marquette University Graduate School will:

  1. Confer with appropriate individuals (e.g., department chairperson, course instructors) to verify approval for the enrollment of a visiting student in the requested course;
  2. Sign the enrollment form;
  3. Distribute copies of the approved enrollment form to:
    • The contact person at the student’s home institution for inclusion in the student’s academic file;
    • The Registrar’s Office or Graduate School at the Marquette University Graduate School to place the student’s name on the class roster and send a final transcript to the home institution at the end of the term.
