Applicants applying for programs that require letters of recommendation must submit the proper number of letters of recommendation as indicated on the application requirements checklist and in the Graduate Bulletin. Additionally, all applicants applying for merit-based financial aid (assistantships, scholarships, fellowships) must submit the submit three letters of recommendation, whether or not the program requires such letters.
Please provide the name and affiliation (i.e., university or place of business) for the individuals submitting letters of recommendation that address your academic qualifications. Letters of recommendation should comment on the applicant's past academic record and potential for future success.
It is preferable for letters of recommendation to be submitted via the online application system. The authors of your letters of recommendation will receive an email instructing them how to use the online recommendation system, if you designate them as online recommenders. All letters submitted online will be delivered to our office and placed in your application file.
If your recommender is unable to submit their recommendation online, they may download the PDF form of the recommendation here. Note that only a few programs (Counseling, Counseling Psychology, and some Nursing programs) use the recommendation form; these recommendations should include a letter. Recommendations for applicants to other programs may be in a letter format.
Letters of recommendation that are submitted offline (i.e., by regular mail, fax, hand-delivered) should be in a signed and sealed envelope from the author. It is preferred that letters received offline are included in the self-completed application packet from the applicant.
Most programs require only a letter as a recommendation. Exceptions include Counseling, Counseling Psychology, and Nursing (MSN and Certificate programs), which require the recommendation form and a letter. It is the applicant’s responsibility to know what is required, and to notify his/her recommenders.
International Students: Letters of recommendation are preferred from professors or administrators of your educational institutions.
