Drafting Your Statement of Purpose

Your statement of purpose reflects the clarity and commitment of your vision in pursuing a graduate degree. It's a way to show the Admissions Committee that you have the motivation to succeed. You show that you have investigated the program, found that it fits your interests and aptitudes, and planned how you will succeed in it.

A statement of purpose usually begins by indicating your reasons for undertaking graduate study at Marquette University. As a part of your statement of purpose, also describe your academic objectives, research interests, and your career plans. Include your related qualifications, including collegial, professional, and community activities, and any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application form.

Writing sample requirements vary depending on the program.  Please verify the requirements for your program at www.grad.mu.edu/programs/apps.
