Charise EdwardsPresident - Cherise Edwards

I started my journey many years ago, helping the United States government protect soldiers in the field.  This opportunity was acquired with an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a commitment to help as many people as possible with the tools that I have been given.  After I got married, delivered three wonderful children, and moved our family up and down the east coast for over a decade, I found myself yearning for academic & intellectual stimulation.  I enrolled in the BSN program at UWM in 2018, which was about 1 year after moving to the Milwaukee area. In my senior year I participated in the Maternal and Child Health pipeline program, which nurtured my love for women’s health. A couple professors in my last semester encouraged me to apply to Marquette’s nurse midwifery program…and here I am!

I love to play tennis and laugh. In my “free time”, I: play video games, sewing, put together jigsaw puzzles, diamond art, read novels (suspense thrillers, lately). I have 3 human children: 14 yo, 12yo, 10yo; & 2 fur babies: 4 yo, 1.5 yo goldendoodles. I really dislike chocolate. I love candy corn! I’m originally from New Orleans and I grew up in Atlanta. I love to talk/chat and hugs! I am a member of American Nurses Association, the Wisconsin Nurse Association, National Student Nurse Association, the American College of Nurse Midwifes, the National Black Nurses association and the United States Tennis Association.

Evonne EvienVice President - Evonne Evien

Hi! My name is Evonne Evien and I am a Nigerian Bay Area native from California studying to get my Master's in Nursing at Marquette. I received my Bachelor's in Business Administration with a focus on Entrepreneurship from Menlo College. After graduating from Menlo, I opened a residential care facility for the elderly, which led me into nursing. As a business owner & administrator, I have noticed that my voice is not taken seriously when advocating for my residents because I am not a healthcare professional. As a nurse, I believe I will be a stronger advocate for those I serve because I am a medical professional. My goal is to obtain a Post-Master's degree in Midwifery and a Doctorate in Adult Primary Care so I can open clinics that serve vulnerable populations that lack access to quality health care.

My number one love is wrestling. I had been wrestling for 10 years before I retired in 2020. While at Menlo I became an All-American at 150lbs. and as a team earned Menlo College's first national championship title. Outside of the roughness, I love traveling and learning about new cultures, helping people,  cooking, laughing, playing games, and meeting new people and animals ;) I am a dog parent to a beautiful mut with an underbite and a turtle with red ears. I am excited to serve on the board and assist with making our grad experience one to remember!

Alexis RomoLogistics Chair - Alexis Romo

Hello my name is Alexis Romo
I am from Perris, California (an hour south of Los Angeles and an hour north of San Diego). For undergrad I attended the University of California, Irvine and got my bachelors in Psychological Sciences with a minor in Public Health. I moved to Milwaukee in January to start Marquette's Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing program.

In my free time I love to explore and try new adventures. When I'm not hiking or exploring California's scenery, you can catch me on the water jet skiing or snowboarding in Big Bear. Life is an adventure, so I never stop exploring and I'm always willing to try new things. I enjoy being outdoors soaking up all the sun while playing sports, swimming, and enjoying time with family and friends. I consider myself a social butterfly, I love to meet new people, so if you ever see me come say "HI" to me!

I am also a diehard Las Vegas Raider fan! #RaiderNation. I also have a baby sulcata tortoise named OOZIE, who I absolutely adore with all my heart. And for all the astrology fanatics I am a Gemini!
