Eve Sussman to give Talk at Opening

(Milwaukee) The Haggerty Museum of Art, Marquette University, is pleased to announce that the artist Eve Sussman will be speaking at the February 18th opening of her exhibition 89 Seconds at Alcazar, which is a video restaging of Velazquez's masterpiece Las Meninas. Sussman's work was the highlight of the Whitney Biennial. The exhibition also includes photographs of the actors featured in the video. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday February 18th, and will be followed by a reception at the Haggerty.

Sussman who was born in London in 1961, has studied in Turkey, New Zealand and at Bennington College in Vermont. She now lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown across the country and throughout Europe. In 1997, Sussman's work was featured in th 5th International Istanbul Biennial, in Turkey.

Eve Sussman has been a fellow at the American Academy in Rome and received numerous awards including a Jerome Foundation Grant 2000, Graham Foundation Grant 196, a Guggenheim Award 1995, and a Pollock-Krasner Grant in 1990 among others. She was also recently featured on the front page of the New York Times' art section, on Sunday February 6th, 2005.

The Haggerty Museum of Art is located at North 13th St. and West Clybourn Avenue on the campus of Marquette University. Museum hours are Monday - Wednesday, Friday - Saturday, 10 am-4:30 p.m.; Thursday, 10 am-8 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.. Free parking is available in the Mary B.
