Frequently Asked Questions for Heartland-Delta IV Delegates

What is Heartland-Delta?
Now in its 10th anniversary year, the Heartland-Delta gathering has become an essential venue for dialogue and learning about Jesuit education, collaboration and Ignatian spirituality. Learn more about the history of Heartland-Delta.

Who will be attending Heartland-Delta IV?
About 500 faculty, administrators and staff will serve as delegates for 12 Jesuit colleges and universities in the Midwest and Delta regions (including St. John's College in Belize).

How does check-in work? Where will I be staying?
If you are an out-of-town delegate, you will receive a letter, confirming your room reservation at Straz Tower residence hall or Mashuda residence hall.  Check-in for the conference will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 24.  Upon arriving in Milwaukee, you should first check into your guest room.  Your key and pertinent building information will be available in the lobby of your assigned residence hall.  Following room check-in, please proceed to delegate registration on the second floor of Marquette's Alumni Memorial Union (we will provide you with easy directions to get there!), where you will receive your delegate packet, name tag and other materials for the gathering. Our Marquette volunteers look forward to welcoming you and assisting you with the check-in and registration process.

Can I stay extra days before/after Heartland-Delta IV?
Early check-in for the conference is not available, but it is possible for delegates to extend their stay at the conclusion of Heartland-Delta IV.  Room rates are $35/night for single occupancy and $45/night ($22.50/person) for double occupancy.  Triple occupancy is $54/night ($18/person).  Guests wishing to extend their stay must pay for their own room costs or ask their college or university to make arrangements for them.  If you are planning to extend your stay at Marquette, please contact Carrie Martin at (414) 288-7208 or email carrie.martin@marquette.edu on or before May 14.

How will local transportation be handled?
There will be bus transportation to and from the airport for those delegations arriving by air.  The bus will drop your delegation off at the residence hall in which you will be staying.  Information on where the bus will collect your delegation will be provided once arrival information becomes available.

There will be bus transportation to and from the Presidents' Night Out and Reception for those delegations that do not have their own bus transport.  The bus will pick up and return each delegation to its residence hall.

During the conference there will be three courtesy vans available to transport conference participants who require transportation to and from the various conference venues.

After 5 p.m., Marquette's L.I.M.O. van service — L.I.M.O stands for Local Intercampus Mobile Operation — will be available to transport conference participants back to their residence halls.  Your conference name tag will be all the identification that you need to board the L.I.M.O.

In case of inclement weather, there will be shuttles available to transport conference participants from the residence halls to the morning sessions.

I have a car. Where do I park?
Delegates who are staying in a residence hall and have a vehicle that requires overnight parking will be directed to a lot in the vicinity of their particular hall. A parking pass, which needs to be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle, will be issued at check-in. The parking fee is $5 per vehicle per night. Payment via credit card (Master Card or Visa), check or exact cash is required at check-in.

Will meals be provided?
Yes! As you can see from the schedule, Monday will feature an Italian buffet dinner and a dessert reception. From Tuesday through Thursday, breakfast will be provided in the residence halls. On Tuesday, attendees will be treated to a sports lunch in the new Al McGuire Athletics Center and a dinner at a "Presidents' Night Out" in one of Milwaukee's restaurants, hosted by your institution's President. Wednesday offers a "Taste of Milwaukee" luncheon and a festive, final banquet. Thursday is a departure day for many attendees, so the residence halls will provide portable lunch boxes that can be taken to the plane or on the bus, if necessary. Of course, beverages and snacks will be available at the break sessions during the conference.

How will I get messages?
The residence hall rooms will not be equipped with voicemail.  However, non-emergency messages will be posted on a board in the lobby of your residence hall and/or at a message  board, near our hospitality table in the Alumni Memorial Union (2nd floor).

To leave a non-emergency message, contact:

  • The front desk of Mashuda Hall (414) 288-3100,
  • The front desk of Straz Tower (414) 288-3579, or
  • The Alumni Memorial Union Information Desk (414) 288-3570 (ext. 4)
In the event of an emergency, every effort will be made to bring the message to you, or you may contact Marquette University Public Safety at (414) 288-1911 (emergency calls only).

Will I be able to check e-mail?
Computer stations for checking web-based e-mail are available in the residence halls as well as the Alumni Memorial Union (the main conference center) in two locations:
  • Ground floor east in the Brew Bayou coffee shop
  • Second floor north in the Marquette Place Cafe

Also, conference attendees have access to computers in the Raynor Memorial Library, just south of the Alumni Memorial Union across Wisconsin Avenue.

Can I use my own laptop in my room?
For delegates with laptops, Internet access is available in all rooms via wired Ethernet connection (please bring an Ethernet cable).

Contrary to the delegate application form, wireless network access will not be available during the conference. Please bring an Ethernet cable for networking.

Will I have access to the campus rec centers?
Yes. Delegates can use two recreation centers on campus: the Rec Plex (located in Straz Tower) and the Helfaer Rec Center (three blocks from Mashuda Hall).
