History Department welcomes Peter Staudenmaier

Peter Staudenmaier joins the history department this fall as our new professor of modern German history. Peter is a Milwaukee native who attended Marquette University High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison before receiving his PhD in 2010 from Cornell University. His research explores the work of the German intellectual Rudolf Steiner; his dissertation, which he is revising into a book manuscript, is “Between Occultism and Fascism: Anthroposophy and the Politics of Race and Nation in Germany and Italy, 1900-1945.” In addition to the Western Civilization survey and courses on German history, Peter will develop classes on ideas about race and on environmental history.
