Teaching Philosophy
History is the study of the past, discoverable through critical
analysis of accessible records. I seek to introduce students to
current scholarship, to challenge them to think critically, and
to pose questions about the significance (and distinctiveness)
of past events.
Research Interests
My research focuses on federal surveillance policy in the twentieth
century, and what this reveals about the role of bureaucracy,
the presidency, the courts, and executive-legislative relations.
