David W. Blight is Class
of 1959 Professor of History and Black Studies at Amherst College
in Massachusetts. He is the author of Frederick Douglass's
Civil War: Keeping Faith in Jubilee (1989) and of Race
& Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory (2001).
Prof. Blight is also one of the authors of A People and a
Nation: A History of the United States and one of the editors
of the Bedford Books/St. Martin's Press Series on History and
Culture.
