The History Department celebrated the friendship and forty-year career of Rev. John Patrick Donnelly, S.J., at a private dinner on Monday, May 2. In attendance were more than forty family members, friends, and colleagues. Rev. Philip Rossi, S.J., interim dean of the Way Klingler College of Arts and Sciences and professor of Theology, blessed the meal, while Rev. Roland Teske, S.J., Donald J. Schuenke Chair Emeritus in Philosophy—and a member of the cohort who entered the Society of Jesus with Fr. Donnelly in the 1950s—delivered brief reminiscences. Dr. Julius Ruff of the history department provided the main tribute; his comments can be read here. In partial recognition of their respect and friendship, the History Department made a contribution in Fr. Donnelly’s honor to the First Tee organization, which provides lessons in golf and in life to urban children (Fr. Donnelly is an avid golfer).
