Peter Staudenmaier will become the newest member of the department when he takes his place as professor of German history in Fall 2011. Peter was hired after a national search to succeed Irene Guenther, who left the department in spring 2010. A native of Milwaukee and a graduate of Marquette University High School, Peter received his PhD from Cornell University, where he wrote a dissertation called “Between Occultism and Fascism: Anthroposophy and the Politics of Race and Nation in Germany and Italy, 1900-1945.” He has taught previously at Cornell and at Montana State University; at Marquette, Peter will teach courses on modern Germany as well as European intellectual and cultural history.
