Faculty and staff call to service

In our work as Marquette faculty, staff and administrators, we are witness daily to the transformational impact Jesuit tradition has on our students. As we welcome Father Pilarz and embark upon a new year together, let us extend that tradition by committing to serve in meaningful ways in our community. Let us each consider the unique ways we might extend our commitment to service and find meaning for ourselves and those around us. We are Marquette.

In 2000, Rev. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., then-superior general of the Society of Jesus, reminded us that, "The real measure of our Jesuit universities lies in who our students become ... and the adult Christian responsibility they will exercise in the future towards their neighbor and their world" ("The Service of Faith"). As a community rooted in the spiritual heritage of St. Ignatius, we are invited to remain alert about the ways we have been called to respond to our families, friends, colleagues, faith communities and the world — with care and compassion, especially for the poor. Marquette's Call to Service asks us to engage deeply with each other and the world.
