President Michael R. Lovell has prioritized a series of new university initiatives that aim to propel Marquette forward and further position it as a leader in Milwaukee and beyond. Among them are the strategic innovation fund, which is investing in innovative ideas and entrepreneurial initiatives on campus; an expanded role in the growing water sector through a significant presence at the Global Water Center; the Social Innovation Initiative, an ongoing exploration of a fit for social innovation at Marquette; and a presence at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Innovation Campus, a 71-acre public-private research park in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Marquette University's renowned faculty-scholars work to advance their fields and improve the world around us. Faculty edit a number of scholarly journals and frequently collaborate with academic partners around the world. Marquette is also home to more than 20 academic centers and institutes.
The Kohler Center fosters new ventures, encourages innovation, and promotes entrepreneurship at Marquette University and in the Milwaukee area. It hosts and records frequent talks and presentations on various entrepreneurial topics geared to offer firsthand startup expertise.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is Marquette University's central point of coordination for sponsored projects and the legally authorized representative for grants, contracts and assurances. ORSP represents the sum of Marquette's experience with extramural sponsors and partners over time. ORSP helps faculty and staff build bridges between Marquette and extramural sponsors and other institutions to advance the university's mission, and it fosters excellence in sponsored projects by promoting best practices, policies and procedures that ensure consistency and efficiency in our transactions with sponsors and partners.
The Office of Research Compliance provides support for institutional committees and Marquette faculty, staff and students for research involving human subjects, animal subjects, radioisotope use and research with recombinant DNA (rNDA). ORC assists researchers with navigating research regulations, provides educational programming and supports collaboration with other research institutions.
Marquette’s Catholic, Jesuit identity calls members of the campus community to Be the Difference, preparing men and women for and with others. These fundamental characteristics and traits align nicely with social innovation and social entrepreneurship; attacking root causes of social problems with sustainable models that increase human capability.
