IT Services offers several methods of managing and distributing e-mails to large groups.
- A distribution list is set up for a group that includes only Marquette e-mail addresses.
- A listserv is set up for a group that includes both Marquette and non-Marquette e-mail addresses.
IT Services will set up your list with a select group of authorized senders, according to your needs.
Request a New E-mail List
Faculty and staff can request an e-mail list for university use. For class work, faculty should consider a D2L course site which includes a built-in e-mail distribution list. Student organizations must have a faculty or staff sponsor to request an e-mail list. To create a list, please fill out an online request form. IT Services will then create a distribution list or listserv to meet your needs.
You will need the following information:
- Why do you want to set up a list? Explain the purpose of the group.
- A brief description of this group. This will be used to send a welcoming message to new users.
- Who will be the Owner of the list? There can only be one owner. This person will add and remove people from the list. (If necessary, IT Services can change this at a later point in time.)
- Will anyone with a non-Marquette e-mail address be on the list now or in the future? This is an important choice that determines the nature of the list. It cannot be changed once the list has been set up.
- Internal mail addresses only: recipients in the Marquette domain (user@marquette.edu)
- Internal and External e-mail addresses: the list will include recipients at other domains. Choose this option if you will ever want to add external e-mail addresses.
- Who will be allowed to send messages to the list? (You provide this information to IT Services, and this can be changed later, if necessary, by IT Services.)
- The owner only
- The owner and selected users
- Any member of the list
- E-mail addresses of recipients you want to add to the list. (You will be able to add or remove users after the list has been created.)
Fill out an online form to request a mailing list.
Manage the E-mail list
You will receive an e-mail notifying you that the distribution list or listserv has been created and that you are the owner. Please read the instructions for managing your list:
