Q: How does the migration to SharePoint Online happen?

A: Microsoft will migrate a copy of the campus-hosted site to SharePoint Online, and the Marquette site owner will review the migrated site. Learn more about the five-step migration to SharePoint Online.

Q: How will I access the new SharePoint Online?

A: SharePoint Online sites can be accessed at https://marq.sharepoint.com/. You must enter your Marquette.edu email address — not your username — and Marquette password. See instructions for logging into SharePoint Online.

Q: Can I update my SharePoint site during migration?

A: If your on-campus SharePoint site is in the initial stage of migration, yes, you can keep updating your site. However, once your site is set for incremental migration, the site will be locked into read-only mode until fully migrated to SharePoint Online. Learn more about the five-step migration to SharePoint Online.

Q: Can I use email to post documents to my SharePoint Online site?

A: Microsoft does not support email publishing of documents in SharePoint Online. Office 365 Groups may meet your needs.

Q: When will my department switch its sites to SharePoint Online?

A: Starting in January 2017, site migrations will occur in scheduled waves for departments.

Q: Why might some navigation links on my migrated site point to the read-only sp.mu.edu?

A: If you created custom navigation links and specified the URLs to use sp.mu.edu, you will need to update the navigation links to point to your newly migrated site on marq.sharepoint.com.

Q: Why are we switching to SharePoint Online?

A: Migrating to SharePoint Online will provide larger quotas, better accessibility, more advanced security, as well as newer features than can be provided if these services were hosted by Marquette.

Q: What is the quota for my migrated SharePoint Online site?

A: During the migration, each site quota is set to approximately double its currently used space.
