Windows 7, the new operating system from Microsoft, offers faster and more reliable performance. It provides better ways to find and manage files, enhanced taskbar previews, and improved support for 64-bit PCs.
It is possible to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista (SP1 or SP2). Older versions of Windows require a custom installation. Read more about Windows 7 Upgrade Paths.
It is recommended that you backup your files before upgrading and this must be done before a custom installation.
New Marquette computers will come with Windows 7. IT Services will not automatically update the current operating system on a computer unless there is a special need or desire. Faculty and staff who choose to update to Windows 7 will need to buy the upgrade using departmental funds, and the PC must meet the minimum hardware configuration.
