IMPORTANT NOTE: All Marquette faculty and staff using Marquette's wireless network for PDA connectivity should be aware of security differences between MU_Admin and MU_Wireless. While it is recommended for all faculty and staff to connect their laptops using MU_Admin, a method for connecting PDAs to MU_Admin is not available at this time. While MU_Wireless does not provide an encrypted network connection, access to Marquette's email system remains secure with proper configuration. If access to other sensitive and critical information is required, it is recommended that your PDA not be used at this time to access such data. Examples of sensitive and critical information include all information identifiable to an individual (including students, staff, faculty, trustees, donors, and alumni), University proprietary information, and information that is regulated by federal, state, and/or local government (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA).
SPECIAL NOTE: Your Windows CE, PocketPC or Windows Mobile based device configuration may vary from the instructions described in this document. If you are unable to use the information found here to configure your particular model, please contact the IT Services Help Desk at (414) 288-7799, or email to and best effort will be made to assist you.
Instructions
To configure your wireless card to access the campus network, you'll need to use the wireless client included with your PDA software. The following settings and values should be entered into your PDA’s WiFi settings where appropriate:
SSID or Network Name: MU_Wireless Connects to: The Internet Authentication: Open or None Data Encryption: Disabled or None IEEE 802.1x access control should be disabled.
After configuring the card, you should perform a soft reset of the PDA.
Verify that you are connected.
Open Internet Explorer on the PDA and browse to http://www.mu.edu/.
You may see a page warning you about a security certificate. Click YES to continue connecting to the wireless network.
The page that should now appear will prompt you for your CheckMarq username and password. After entering your CheckMarq credentials, you may receive a warning about leaving the SSL-encrypted connection. If you see this page, check the box that instructs Internet Explorer to “do not show this warning”, and then click YES to continue.
You are now connected wirelessly to the MU_Wireless network.
Please contact the IT Services Help Desk at (414) 288-7799 for any needed assistance.
