  1. What is EmpCenter?
EmpCenter is our new time and attendance system from WorkForce Software. WorkForce Software is one of the leading providers of this technology and has particular experience and expertise in addressing the needs of higher education institutions such as Marquette.
  2. Why did the university purchase this system?
There are several reasons, but the most notable is to improve the overall accuracy and timeliness of our payroll processes. We are replacing a paper-based and heavily manual process, prone to error with a more efficient, fully automated process using EmpCenter.
  3. How will EmpCenter benefit me?
The decision to move to an automated time clock is based largely on the benefits it will bring to our employees. First and foremost, this is the most accurate and consistent way to report the hours for all hourly employees. There are also several “self-service” features which make recording time– as well as other work-related activities – faster and more insightful to university specific policies.
  4. What changes will I have in my day-to-day processes?
Electronic time keeping should reduce the time it takes you to record your hours worked and time off. EmpCenter offers ease of use and multiple ways of time entry through a web application or a time clock. Additionally, it provides an easy-to-use tool to request time off and record it automatically in the system upon approval.
  5. Will using EmpCenter take extra time?
Not at all. In fact, using EmpCenter will typically require less time than producing a paper-based timesheet.
  6. How will EmpCenter benefit me as a manager/supervisor?
As a manager, you will have access to all of your employees’ time sheets within EmpCenter – no more waiting for the paper time sheet to show up on your desk. You will be able to easily review all of your employees’ time sheets at once, fix errors, and approve time sheets online. In addition, employees will be able to request time off through the system and you can approve or deny requests with the simple click of a button. For an overview, check out the Manager Features demo video (coming soon).
  7. How does EmpCenter process time off requests?
Marquette is implementing functionality for electronically submitting a future leave request to a supervisor through EmpCenter. The supervisor is able to approve or deny the request electronically which is saved directly back to the employee's time sheet.
  8. What is the schedule for this project? When do I need to be prepared to change my practices to use EmpCenter?
The timekeeping project will be phased in over the next 12 months, alongside the Oracle R12 upgrade. Changes to timekeeping procedures for hourly staff (non-student) employees and their supervisors are scheduled for Fall 2012, followed by a student employee implementation in 2013. Communication via emails and updates on this web page will include further details.
  9. How do I access the system?
Accessing EmpCenter is simple through a time clock or web application. Your access to EmpCenter will depend on your department's preferred method of timekeeping and the type of action you are looking to process, such as a time off request or recording time in for the day. Additionally, your interactions with the system could vary by role. As we roll-out the system in fall 2012, you will receive specific training.
  10. Who do I contact if I have questions regarding my paycheck?
We always strive to ensure the highest accuracy and timeliness in our payroll processes, and the move to a paperless system represents a significant investment in taking that dedication to the next level. However, if you encounter problems or have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Payroll Department.
