Dr. Richard C. Holz

Richard C. Holz is currently the associate dean for resources and planning in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago and a full professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department.

As an associate dean, he serves the more than 6,000 full-time students, 395 full-time faculty and 50 full-time staff members by responsibly managing the budgetary expenditures for all 18 academic departments and 20 interdisciplinary programs, which total more than $54.5 million annually. He is also responsible for running the summer school program, which accounts for more than $11 million in revenue annually. Prior to moving to the Dean’s Office, he was an American Council on Education Fellow (Class of 2010–11) and served as the Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Loyola for five years. Holz was a visiting research professor in the Institute for Nanotechnology and Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University in 2002–03, and has been an invited speaker at several national and international conferences focused on biological inorganic chemistry. His research efforts are currently funded by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and the Petroleum Research Fund. He has published more than 90 research articles.

He has a bachelor of science from Bemidji State University, a master of science from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and a Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University, all in chemistry.
