History: The Diocese of Miami was erected from territory in the Diocese of St. Augustine, 1958; Miami lost territory for erecting new dioceses in Florida, 1968-1984; and Miami was elevated to the Archdiocese of Miami, 1984. Miami and its predecessors have supported the following evangelization among Native Americans in Florida:

1549-1763 (destroyed by English Carolinians and their Native allies)

Native Americans, e.g. Apalachee, Timucua) in La Florida (present-day Georgia and Florida) evangelized by Spanish Franciscans and Jesuits

1980s

A religious sister evangelized Native American children (e.g. Seminole, Miccosukee) in the archdiocese

1980s-present
