History: Boston was erected as a diocese from territory in the Diocese of Baltimore for the states in New England, 1808, and from territory in the Boston Diocese, the dioceses of Burlington and Portland were erected, 1853.

 

Holdings of Catholic records about Native Americans: Unknown. However, related correspondence (e.g. Abenaki, Passamaquoddy, Penobscot) may exist in the papers of its first three bishops.
