History: With a group of laymen, Father William Joseph Chaminade founded the Marionists (a.k.a. Society of Mary) in France, 1817, whose members have self-identified with the post-nominal initials, “S.M.” They made their first U.S. foundation, 1849, from which they founded four provinces that consolidated as the United States Province, 2002. Marianists have administered the following Native American (e.g. Coahuiltecan, Mestizos) schools in San Antonio, Texas:
