How to Use Local Libraries

Milwaukee Public Library and the Milwaukee County Federated Library System
Milwaukee Public Library (814 W. Wisconsin Avenue) and its 12 branches and the 14 federated libraries in Milwaukee County extend borrowing privileges to all county residents, including students in dormitories, upon presentation of Marquette ID and verification of local address (examples: utility bill, envelope received at current address and postmarked in current month). Marquette students and faculty who reside outside Milwaukee County may ask at Memorial or Science Reference Desks about an InfoPass, which allows four week loan of up to three items not owned by Marquette. Hours, addresses, telephone numbers, etc. of all system libraries are available under Library Information on the CountyCat main menu. Hours, addresses, telephone numbers, programs, etc. of the Milwaukee city libraries are available at the Milwaukee Public Library Web site.

Medical College of Wisconsin
The Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries allow four week loan of books to Marquette faculty and students. Faculty need to present their Marquette ID at the Circulation Desk to obtain an MCW borrower's card. Students need to present their ID and a printout of their circulation record from MARQCAT (to provide proof of enrollment) to the MCW Circulation Desk. Hours, telephone numbers, locations, etc. are available under Information about the Library on the MCW catalog.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
UW-Milwaukee's Golda Meir Library (2311 E. Hartford Avenue) issues special privileges of four week book loan and one day periodical loan to faculty upon presentation of Marquette faculty ID. Students who identify needed materials at UW-M may ask at Memorial or Science Reference Desks for an InfoPass, which will allow four week borrowing of up to three items not owned by Marquette. Hours, telephone numbers, etc. are available on the Golda Meir Library Web site.

Cooperative Access Program Description of a program among Marquette, the Medical Colege and UWM for scholars to obtain local access to needed resources.

Infopass
Many area libraries participate in the INFOPASS (Information Passport) program, which is a library-to-library arrangement that allows access to materials held at Milwaukee libraries but not owned by the Marquette University Libraries. Inquire at the Reference Desk at either Memorial (288-7556) or Science Library (288-3398) for further information.

Interlibrary Loan Service
This service allows Marquette University students, faculty and staff to request, free of charge, research materials not available on the Marquette Campus. Request this service if you are unable to go to another local library. Users should allow an average of two weeks for most requests.
