The Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board and the Wisconsin Historical Society present the Governor's Archival Achievement Award annually to a library or historical records repository in recognition of outstanding contributions to records preservation. This year's award cites Marquette's Department of Special Collections and University Archives for developing a wide variety of outreach projects highlighting the University's important research collections. The Department of Special Collections and University Archives has extensive collections on Catholic schools and mission programs among Native Americans, Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement, and the papers of J.R.R. Tolkien. The University Archives is also the official repository for Marquette University records. Housed in the Raynor Library, these and other collections have become more accessible to researchers through exhibits, public programs, thorough cataloging, and an extensive Web site. The Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board has ten members appointed by the governor. It assists Wisconsin institutions in applying for federal grants for archival work, and in improving the preservation and availbility of historical records in Wisconsin. For more information please contact Matt Blessing, Head of University Archives, by phone at (414) 288-5901 or by e-mail |
