A-1.2 Offices of the Vice Presidents
Series 5 Vice President for University Advancement, 1952-ongoing
Administrative History:  The position of Vice President for Public Relations and Development was created in 1952 and embraced alumni affairs, public relations, and development activities. After the resignation of Rev. Max G. Barnett, S.J., in 1959, the position was vacant until the appointment of John D. Wellman in 1961. After Wellman’s resignation two years later, the position was vacant until the appointment of Robert A. Duffy in November 1967. At this time, the position was renamed Vice President for University Relations.

In 1975, the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations was created as a separate position and assigned general and executive responsibility for university fund-raising activities and alumni relations. This position was discontinued in 1979.

In 1992, the name of the position of Vice President for University Relations was changed to Vice President for University Advancement. Currently, the position has general and executive responsibility for the administration of Marquette alumni and development programs.
