The 1968 "Marquette Explorer" stamp was issued in conjunction with the Marquette Tercentenary Celebration. The stamp was issued on September 6 at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where Marquette established in 1668 the first permanent Euro-American settlement in the state.
