Composite photograph of The Harlequin Club, 1921
John H. (M.D. ’59) and Mary (A&S ’57) Beaumier recently
donated this oversize composite of The Harlequin Club to the Raynor Memorial
Libraries. Herbert W. Kuhm (1898-1979), the drama club’s founder and
president, served up a caustic Jazz-age brand of campus humor. Young Kuhm
was also the humor editor of the student annual, The Hilltop;
organized the all-university vaudeville show; and supported himself by
managing the morgue in the School of Medicine. Peter A. Brooks (middle row)
was another founding member of the Harlequin Club. Brooks joined the
Society of Jesus following graduation. In early 1944 Father Brooks became
the 17th president of Marquette University.
