Robert A. Johnston
Baking Co. Advertisement (ca. 1920)
The Milwaukee-based baking company was part of the National Biscuit Company, a large
trust made up of several Midwestern baking companies from 1894 to 1898.
By 1898 Robert A. Johnston had become disillusioned with the atmosphere of the
trust and again reestablished his own company. Johnston's was famous for its slogan "Not In Any Trust," which
garnered attention
throughout the U.S. and Canada. Robert died in 1907, but sons Harry S. and Walter V. continued to
manage
the family business until 1969.
