Painting of Kateri Tekakwitha, by Dwayne Antone, Pima, Arizona

Painting.

" ... Kateri means having a role model for members of our tribe. Having ... in the church way, a person that is recognized. And it gives ... like having a sister in terms of like family."

Rosalita Roach-Avery (Lakota)

" ... The first time I experienced her was at the local [Kateri] Circle and then at the national [Tekakwitha] Conference. Until then, I didn't know anything about her. But I was really amazed that there was such a person that was going to become a saint one day that was a Native American ... that really struck me as ... important because like I said ... we Indian people need to see that, that the Church is respecting who we are and what we are ... Now, I pray for her canonization everyday, and I offer my mass intentions for her canonization, because I wanted to have, I want it to happen in my lifetime."

Deacon Marlin J. Leneaugh (Lakota)
