The Library’s business collection supports student course work and the research of students
and faculty. Business materials are located primarily in the Raynor and Memorial Libraries,
which contain over 800,000 volumes of books, bound journals, and microforms relating to the
Humanities and Social Sciences. Students may also use Marquette’s Law Library for
regulatory and legal topics.
Print Collection Strengths
Books: The general business book collection includes over 80,000 items; this number
encompasses the Library of Congress call number range H - HJ. The collection is especially strong
in the areas of economics, finance, management, marketing, and international trade and business.
English is the primary language for acquisition and current business trends and practices are
emphasized.
Journals: The journal collection has been built by the faculty and librarians of the University
over many years and new subscriptions are added regularly. In addition, the Libraries are
consciously trying to convert print journal subscriptions to electronic subscriptions, thereby improving
access for all users.
Annual Reports to Shareholders and SEC filings
The Library houses a microfiche collection of the annual reports to shareholders for companies traded
on the New York Stock and American Stock Exchanges. Reports for some companies go back as
far as 1953, and up to 1997. We also have microfiche collections of proxy statements and 10-K
reports, but these are less comprehensive.
For electronic access to SEC documents (filings) and the data reported in them, the libraries subscribe
to the database Thomson One Banker, which
provides comprehensive online access back to 1993, with scattered older material (for a fuller
description of the database, see below). Thomson One Banker also provides access to annual
reports and data for about 13,000 foreign companies (through the Worldscope database). We also
subscribe to Compustat Global via WRDS – it provides access to numeric data for both U.S.
and foreign companies (see below for more information about WRDS).
Electronic Resources
In addition to standard print materials, the Raynor Memorial Libraries maintain a growing number of
electronic indexes, full text and data sources. These are only available off-campus to valid
Marquette Card holders only. Below is a list of database highlights (for a complete list, go to

Of particular interest is WRDS
(Wharton Research Data Services): this is a data hosting and interface service that allows easy
and uniform online access to various economic and financial numeric datasets (e.g. Compustat Global,
CRSP, Global Insight, etc.). Faculty and graduate students may also request individual accounts
for storage space on the WRDS servers.
ABI/INFORM Global: The oldest
electronic business article index, this database provides access to articles from over 1800 domestic
and international business journals, with an emphasis on the scholarly literature. Contains
the full text for over half of the journals included in the database, beginning mostly in 1992.
ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry:
This database complements ABI/INFORM Global, and provides access to 750+ trade journals,
newswires and newsletters.
Business & Company Resource Center:
There are actually several databases in this portal-type database: an article index to ~1300
business and trade magazines (strength is in the trade publications); a company directory; and a
database of investment reports from financial analysts (Investext Plus). In addition, there are
industry encyclopedia articles and market research reports (Datamonitor Market Research Industry
Reports). Approximately half of the journals indexed are full-text beginning mostly in 1993.
Business Source Elite:
A competitor to ABI/INFORM, this article database covers a broad spectrum of U.S. and international
business topics and industries; scientific and medical information; regulation and policy information;
and company and product information. It includes the Harvard Business Review in
full-text.
Compustat Global: a database of financial data on public companies and
indexes from around the world. It is available through the WRDS interface.
EconLit: A comprehensive,
indexed bibliography with selected abstracts of the world's economic literature. It provides
coverage of over 400 major journals as well as articles in collective volumes (essays, proceedings,
etc.), books, book reviews, dissertations, and working papers.
Global Insight: A
database of economic, financial, and demographic time series data for the US. It is available
using the vendor's interface (daily updates), and via the WRDS interface (updated quarterly).
Global Market Information Database
: From Euromonitor, this is a database of market research on countries, markets and companies:
it provides country demographics and economic conditions (200 + countries); consumer lifestyle profiles
(52 countries); sales volume, value and forecasts for 350 retail products; major brands and
companies.
Lexis-Nexis Academic:
Lexis-Nexis is a powerful research tool featuring a rich variety of full text sources. It provides
up-to-date information on current events, business, law, and medicine.
Political Risk Yearbook: this
database provides overviews of the history, economy, politics, and risk forecasts for 100 countries.
It provides 10 years of economic data, and prose description and analysis of the political players and
situation written by experts.
PsycInfo:
this database provides access to the scholarly literature of the fields of organizational and industrial
psychology.
ReferenceUSA:
A business directory database (~13 million records) and consumer directory (~180 million
records).
STAT-USA: A business,
trade and economic information service provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Includes National Trade Data Bank, current and historical financial and economic data, international
market research, trade opportunities, country analysis.
Thomson One Banker:
Full-text SEC filings, digital images of annual reports, and extracted financial and management
information for more than 12,000 US public corporations, and ~13,000 foreign public companies
(Worldscope). We also have access to Thomson's Mergers & Acquisitions Deals data.
The database has a very powerful and sophisticated screening and reporting interface, and data can
be easily downloaded in spreadsheet format.

trade, and marketing. The sites are chosen, and the page maintained, by the Business
Librarian.
Federal Depository Program
Marquette participates in the Federal Depository program, acquiring a variety of state and federal
documents which assist particularly: business, marketing and demographic research; statistical studies,
monitoring legislative and regulatory issues; and public affairs. In addition, the Milwaukee Public
Library (5 blocks away) is a full federal and patent depository library.
