Materials dealing with Spanish and Spanish American language, literature, culture,
history, etc. are principally housed in Memorial Library which contains over 1.3 million volumes
of books, bound journals, and microforms relating to the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Collection Strengths
Marquette's collections in Spanish language and literature support departmental teaching and
research through the Master's degree level. Marquette offers both minors and
majors in Spanish language and literature leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Marquette also offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) program and a Master of Arts in
Teaching (M.A.T.) in Spanish language and literature. Marquette's collections in Spanish
support the curriculum of courses in both undergraduate and graduate Spanish programs as well as
research needs of teaching faculty.
Spanish is the primary language of the collection. Translations of Spanish literary works
in English may be collected to augment the collection, but are not purchased in lieu of the material in
the original language. Literary works primarily include works from Spain as well as various
countries in Spanish America. Works of literary criticism are purchased in both Spanish and
English.
