Library Resources - Speech Pathology and Audiology

The speech pathology and audiology collection of Marquette University is located in the Raynor Memorial Libraries which contain over 1.6 million volumes of books, bound journals and microfilms.   In addition, online resources include over 18,000 full-text electronic journals and 275 databases.

Collection Strengths

The libraries own over 1,100 volumes in the areas of speech pathology and language, diseases of the ear, audiology, voice disorders, aphasia, and speech disorders.  Emphasis is on current, English language materials.  Supporting the collection are over 54,000 volumes in the life sciences and over 58,000 volumes in the health sciences, including 890 health sciences e-books.  In addition, the libraries have approximately 1,200 current print serial subscriptions and over 1,300 health sciences e-journals.

Electronic Resources

The libraries' website provides access to MARQCAT, the Marquette University Libraries' online catalog, as well as to selected internet sites arranged by subject, and a number of electronic databases.  Of particular interest to speech pathologists/audiologists are:

CINAHL (Cumulative Index To Nursing And Allied Health Literature)
Provides access to virtually all English language nursing journals; major journals from thirteen allied health fields; ANA and NLN publications; and selected books, dissertations, audiovisual materials, standards of practice and conference proceedings.  Coverage is 1982 to the present.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

ERIC
Includes over one million citations to articles, research papers and technical reports in the field of education. 1966 - Present.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

Health And Psychosocial Instruments - HAPI
Provides descriptions and source information for more than 12,000 tests, questionnaires, rating scales, etc. used to assess health and behavior.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

Health Sciences in ProQuest
Indexes popular magazines and scholarly journals covering physical and mental health topics, health administration and health policy.  Includes full-text articles from over 1,000 publications.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
Indexes approximately 850 journals in nursing, allied health, and medicine.   Full-text access is available for nearly 600 journals with some full-text dating back as far as 1975.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

MEDLINE
Provides indexing to over 4,600 journals covering all aspects of biomedicine, including nursing, allied health, and the biological and physical sciences.  Coverage is from 1966 to the present and is international in scope.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

NLM Gateway
Provides a single interface for searching multiple resources from the National Library of Medicine including MEDLINE, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus (NLM's online catalog), and MEDLINEplus.

PsycINFO
Provides access to the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines.   Over 1,500 journals are indexed as are English-language books, book chapters and dissertations.  Coverage is international in scope and includes the years 1872 to the present for journals and 1987 to the present for books and book chapters.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.

Web of Science
Combines Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index in one source.  Indexes can be searched individually or combined.  Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only.
