Numerous reference sources in the Marquette University Libraries contain biographical information. Before you begin your search, it is helpful to know the full name (including middle initial), birth/death date, occupation, and nationality of the person. General sources useful in any biographical search include the following: BIOGRAPHY AND GENEALOGY MASTER INDEX REF DESK This CD-ROM indexes thousands of reference sources containing biographical information by name of biographee. BIOGRAPHY INDEX IND Z 5301 .B5 An index to biographical information included in books and periodicals. ENCYCLOPEDIAS General encyclopedias, both print and electronic, contain biographical information on well-known persons of all periods and nationalities. Specialized subject encyclopedias usually provide more in-depth biographical coverage of major figures in the field. Check the ENCYCLOPEDIA SHELVES, Britannica Online (Available off-campus to valid Marquette Card holders only), or MARQCAT under the subject heading, with a sub-heading " Dictionaries" or " Encyclopedias." For example: Philosophy -- Dictionaries For a full length biography, check under the person's name (last name first) as a subject heading in Marquette University's online catalog. For biographies by subject, nationality, or occupation, check under such subject headings as: Catholics -- Biography Canada -- Biography Journalists -- Biography Links to more biographical resources on the Web can be found at the Reference & News section of this site, under Biography & People.
