BOOKS

For library books concerning a particular industry, use MARQCAT, the online catalog. From the Main Menu of MARQCAT, select SUBJECT. Then enter the name of the industry; for example, Automobile Industry, Chemical Industry, etc. If a subject search is unsuccessful, try a WORD search.

This database is actually four separate databases linked together:

  1. Business Index: an index to 1300+ business and trade journals; approximately half of the journals are full-text beginning in 1993. Emphasis is on trade magazines and journals.
  2. Investext: a database of financial investment reports on both individual public companies and industries. To retrieve the industry reports, use the 'Advanced search'; go into the SIC Descriptions (instead of directly into Investext), find the appropriate SIC code and follow the link "Investment reports about this industry."
  3. Company ProFiles: a directory of approximately 180,000 public and private companies.
  4. SIC Descriptions: an electronic version of the SIC Manual.

STANDARD INDUSTRIAL CLASSIFICATION MANUAL (SIC) RAYNOR REF HF 1042 .S73 1987
