Notes of the Meeting of February 3, 2006

1. Michael Pate, Acting Dean, University Library, called the meeting to order in the Thompson Room at 8:30am in the absence of the Chair, Dr. Michael Gillespie.

2. The new Dean of the University Library, Janice Simmons-Welburn, was introduced to the members present.

3. Michael Pate provided comment on the Thompson Room and its recovery following the water damage of the past September.  The recent issue of the student newspaper, The Warrior, had a descriptive article about the room

4. Patricia Cervenka, Law Library Director, Heidi Schweizer, Center for Teaching and Learning; and Andrew Tallon, Marquette University Press; provided brief overviews of their areas.

5. Pate mentioned a paper entitled “Libraries Dealing with the Future Now” coauthored by the new Dean, Janice Simmons-Welburn.  He noted that there are some similarities in issues facing Raynor Memorial Libraries and the issues discussed in this paper.  A short discussion of the issues ensued among the Board members.

6. The meeting was adjourned at 9:25am.
