Minutes of the Meeting of September 7, 2000
Present: C. Andrews; S. Beall; N. Burckel; J. Kirk; W. Kos, Chair; S. Munroe; A. Sandy;
P. Schanck; J. Simms; W. Zemler-Cizewski
- The meeting was called to order in the Memorial Library Instruction Room 107 at 1:00pm by
the Chair, Dr. William Kos.
Burckel provided a brief background summary of the current thinking for the new library.
He noted that three nationally prominent librarians spoke at Marquette in the spring and
each made the following observations in one way or another:
- Libraries will be coping with a dual world of print and online materials for sometime.
- The library will continue to be important as a place both for research and study.
- Digital materials will not totally replace print materials
- There will be an increasing convergence of content, conduit (technology), and
communication (instructional media.)
The Raynor Planning Committee's has developed a revised concept for Raynor and Memorial.
Preliminary drawings have been prepared and Burckel will make a presentation before the
Board of Trustees later in September. Burckel shared his Power Point presentation with
the Board, which included drawings of the proposed revised Raynor.
- The meeting was adjourned at 2:10pm.
- The next meeting is scheduled for 1:00pm, October 12, 2000
Minutes prepared by J. Kirk.
