New E-Resources

January 2006—The Libraries have added the following new online journal and database subscriptions since August 2005.  Most are new to campus, while several represent a change of format or significant enhancement, such as dates of coverage.  All are available to Marquette users from any campus network location, as well as from off-campus.  If you have questions, please drop by the Information Desk or use other AskUs! services.

Dictionary of Philosophy cover graphicDictionary of Philosophy   This e-book form of the important reference work from Oxford University Press (paper copy remains in the Reference Collection at REF.B41 .B53 1994) contains more than 2,100 entries from hundreds of highly distinguished contributors representing the world's top universities and institutions.  Among the many topics covered are African, Islamic, Jewish, Russian, Chinese, and Buddhist philosophies; bioethics and biomedical ethics; art and aesthetics; epistemology; metaphysics; peace and war; social and political philosophy; the Holocaust; feminist thought; and much more.  Also included are 1,000 biographical entries on major figures in philosophical thought throughout history.
SilverPlatter grapicFrancis   Francis is a large multi-disciplinary database produced in France which indexes over 4,200 journals in the humanities and social sciences, including citations to books as well as book chapters, journal articles, conference papers, exhibition catalogs, reports, legislation, teaching materials, and French dissertations.  The subject descriptors and the abstracts are in both English and French.  It is particularly strong in religion, art history, literature, psychology, philosophy, education, linguistics, archeology, information science, and sociology.
Ebsco logoLibrary, Information Science and Technology Abstracts  LISTA indexes journal articles from more than 600 publications plus books, research reports, and conference proceedings on a variety of topics including librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management, search engines, printed and electronic information sources, the information industry, scholarly communication, and electronic publishing.

New Testament Abstracts  The database features indexing and abstracts for journal articles, monographs, multi-author works, and software related to New Testament studies.  The content of over 500 journals is included with all abstracts in English, regardless of the language of the original work.  In addition, approximately 800 current books regarding New Testament studies are summarized annually.  New Testament Abstracts is a product of a partnership between American Theological Library Association and the Weston Jesuit School of Theology.

Nursing and Allied Health Collection  The Nursing & Allied Health Collection is a resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers.  The database contains nearly 100 full text journals, including more than 80 peer-reviewed titles covering the areas of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, consumer health and allied health disciplines.

Professional Development Collection (Education)  The Professional Development Collection provides a collection of more than 550 education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles.  This database also contains more than 200 educational reports.  Examples of titles offered include: Booklist, Curriculum Administrator, Education, Education Digest, Educational Leadership, High School Journal, Journal of Education, Journal of Educational Research, Journal of Learning Disabilities, Phi Delta Kappan, Reading Teacher, School Library Journal, and many others.

New York Review of Books logoNew York Review of Books  The New York Review of Books offers literary reviews of current books and issues in American life, politics, culture, and the arts, including music, theater, dance, and film.  The electronic edition of this important publication contains complete text and archives back to its 1963 founding, which may be searched by date or author, keyword, or by specific fields (title of article, author of article, reviewed author, reviewed work, and type of article).  In addition to major essays and lengthy book reviews, the New York Review of Books includes letters and poetry.

Safari Tech Books Online logoSafari Tech Books Online  This resource offers a breadth of full-text IT related books.  Topics include: IT management, e-commerce/business, programming languages, graphics, hardware, multimedia, security and many others.  All of the individual works available in Safari can also be found by searching in MARQCAT.  The titles are directly linked into Safari to bring you quickly to the desired book.  It is also possible to browse the Safari collection by doing an author search for “Safari Tech Books Online” in MARQCAT.  This will show the more than 3,000 titles that Safari offers.  More...
