Raynor Memorial Libraries to Conduct Survey |
March 2006--Raynor Memorial Libraries will ask a sample of students and faculty to respond to an online survey during March and April. The survey is a part of a national effort to understand and act upon our users' opinions of service quality. All Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) libraries are conducting the survey this spring in order to enhance the benchmarking value of results. Approximately 20% of full and part-time undergrad and graduate students, plus all full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, will receive an e-mail invitation to participate. As an i ncentive and thank you, students who complete the survey may enter their e-mail addresses for a prize drawing that includes an iPod and MarquetteCash gift cards. Responses are confidential and no personal information is captured with the survey responses. The survey typically takes about 15 minutes to complete. Answers to frequently-asked questions (FAQs) are online. The rigorously-tested survey instrument, called LibQUAL+, is administered under the aegis of the Association of Research Libraries with a goal of fostering a culture of excellence in providing library service. The Marquette Libraries administered the same survey in 2002 as a basis for Raynor Library planning and for decisions regarding collection management; the 2006 survey will allow systematic analysis of user feedback over time. Each question has three parts that ask respondents to indicate the minimum service level they will accept; the desired service level they expect; and the perceived level of service currently provided. This design permits analysis of gaps between expectations, perception, and minimally acceptable service levels. The Libraries will receive results during the summer and will share final results with the campus community in the fall. Technical issues that arise or questions about the survey should be addressed to Pat Berge via e-mail or telephone (414-288-5214). |
