| Martin de Porres Grey, RSM, wrote that
the initial assembly involved "150 black religious women from 79 different national and
international congregations." To this day, the NBSC continues its efforts to develop a
collective sense of heritage, identity, purpose, and vision relative to Black Catholic women. In
addition, the organization supports women exploring, discerning, and seriously considering a religious
vocation. The NBSC Collection includes correspondence, minutes, unpublished papers, presentations, conference materials, and other materials documenting the programs and services provided by the Conference. Other groups that partnered with the NBSC are documented, including the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, National Office for Black Catholics, and other religious organizations, Black political organizations, and social justice groups. Details on the scope of the collection and a complete descriptive inventory are available online. Complete lists of Special Collections' related archival collections documenting religious formation and vocation and Catholic social action are also online. The Department of Special Collection and University Archives, located on the 3rd floor of Raynor Library, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information please contact Matt Blessing at 414-288-5901 or e-mail matt.blessing@marquette.edu. |
