"Healing Images:
Connecting with Inner Wisdom" |
When I asked Dr. Albert Schweitzer how he accounted for the fact that anyone could possibly expect to become well after having been treated by a witch doctor, he said that I was asking him to divulge a secret that doctors have carried around inside them ever since Hippocrates. “But I’ll tell you anyway,” he said, his face still illuminated by that half-smile. “The witch doctor succeeds for the same reason that all of us succeed. Each patient carries his own doctor inside of him. They come to us not knowing that truth. We are at our best when we give the doctor who resides within each patient a chance to go to work.” (Norman Cousins, Anatomy of an Illness, 1980, pp. 68-69) |

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the library-sponsored fall colloquium, presented by Dr. Anees Sheikh, Professor of Psychology at Marquette University. Dr. Sheikh will explain why the most effective healer comes within the psyche of the individual, demonstrating that imagery is an excellent vehicle for accessing our inner healer. Dr. Sheikh will define what imagery is, as well as address the healing power of imagery though its connection with our inner wisdom. During the past two decades, an impressive body of empirical research has been conducted, demonstrating the successful role of imagery in health. Dr. Sheikh will share a number of imagery techniques, case histories, and personal experiences to clarify the issues. |
