Fall 2000 Library Newsletter |
Meet the Library BoardThe University Library Board serves as an advisory body to the Dean of Libraries. Eight faculty members, appointed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, serve staggered two-year terms. Two student representatives (one undergrad and one grad) are appointed annually. Several librarians meet with the Board in an ex-officio capacity, including Mr. Jay Kirk, Coordinator of Collection Development; Mr. Michael Pate, Associate Director; Prof. Peter Schanck, Law Library Director; and Dr. Nicholas Burckel, Dean of Libraries. The Board considers library matters insofar as they affect the teaching and research of faculty and the learning environment for students (from The Faculty Handbook). Recent meeting topics have included the collections budget, technology issues, consortial agreements, and planning for Raynor Library. Chair Will Kos encourages faculty to share their questions or agenda items. They may contact their departmental library representatives or any Board members. Meeting minutes and a list of all departmental representatives are posted on the Library's web site.
