Fall 2007— As always, time brings changes to the Libraries' expert staff,
and this year was no different. Associate Dean Michael Pate retired in June after 22
years with the Libraries; the party held in his honor included a special appearance of Marquette's own
Western Civilization Blues Band (see photo). A national search for the Associate Dean position
is currently underway. |
The summer also brought new arrivals. Monica Drake began
in July as Class Reserves Assistant. July was also the start of Brian Evans' tenure as
Application Services Supervisor in Research and Outreach Services. Lindsey Pauly
assumed duties as Acquisitions Technician. Ed Sanchez, profiled below, joined the
staff as the new Coordinator of Library Information Technology. And finally, Greg Wutcheck
was hired late spring for the new business manager position.
In other staff news, four librarians took on new and additional subject liaison responsibilities:
Rosemary Del Toro for Chemistry, Julie O'Keeffe for Math, Nia Schudson
for Physics, and Alberto Herrera for Political Science. Now 19 librarians have collection
responsibility for one or more academic disciplines.
Spotlight on Ed Sanchez |
Formerly of UNC Chapel Hill, Ed Sanchez has now assumed the multiple and varied duties of the
Coordinator of Library Information Technology. He earned his BA degree from St. Louis
University, and his MLS from the University of Missouri. Ed brings much work and travel
experience to his job. "I am a people person," he says, "probably owing to
the fact that I attended 11 different grade schools. I've also worked in 6 different libraries, in
10 different departments." He goes on to point out, "I wholeheartedly agree with
Martha Spear's Top
10 Reasons to be a Librarian." He is happy to have inherited "a wonderful,
hard-working IT staff, and we are eager to tackle the initiatives generated by the strategic planning
process currently underway." We all welcome Ed and wish him well in his new
position.
