Background:

From the collections of the Library of Congress, in Rethinking Columbus: The Next 500 Years, p. 60, edited by Bill Bigelow and Bob Peterson, 2nd edition, Rethinking Schools, http://www.rethinkingschools.org/, Milwaukee, 1998, 189 pp.

Study and Discuss:

1.     What is this flyer advertising?

2.     How do you think these lands were acquired?

3.     Do you think the buyers were aware that this land was taken from Native Americans? If so, why did they buy it?

4.     How much First Nations land was sold in 1910? Put this in perspective.

5.     Did this practice continue after 1910?

6.     Who was organizing the sale of this land and keeping the profits? What do you think about this?
